About & Disclaimer
This design software calculates the axial resistance of a nominally pinned baseplate. The column may be a Universal Beam (Advance ® UKB), Universal Column (Advance ® UKC) or hollow section (both hot finished Celsius ® and cold formed Hybox ®). The design resistance is calculated in accordance with BS EN 1993-1-1 and the UK National Annex. In addition to selecting the column and the grade of concrete, the user must select the size, thickness and steel grade of the baseplate. Baseplates for circular and square hollow sections must be square. The graphics show the column, the baseplate (grey) and the effective area (yellow overlay). Any effective area outside the plan dimensions of the plate is excluded from the resistance calculation.
Although care has been taken to ensure that the calculated resistances are correct, users should verify the output. The Steel Construction Institute and other parties associated with this software and website assume no responsibilities for errors or misuse of this software, or damage arising from use of this software
